The second he walked on stage… you could feel it.
This wasn’t going to be a normal audition.
Rudy MacLean — better known as RuMac — came from a tiny fishing village in Ullapool, and from the start, he didn’t take himself too seriously.
“This is just a hobby that got out of hand,” he said with a smile.
The judges laughed.
The audience smiled.
But then… he revealed his instrument.
An accordion.
And just like that — everything shifted.
You could literally see the reaction on the judges’ faces.

Because if there’s one thing Simon Cowell is known for… it’s his hatred of the accordion.
Even Amanda Holden looked like she was seconds away from hitting the buzzer.
It felt like this audition might be over before it even began.

RuMac launched into a completely unexpected, wildly entertaining version of “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” by Baccara… but not just on the accordion.
He performed it.
Fully.
Singing. Playing. Moving. Owning the stage like no one saw coming.
It was weird.

It was absolutely brilliant.
The audience didn’t just watch — they reacted. People started clapping, laughing, even getting up to dance. The energy in the room flipped instantly.
And the judges?
They didn’t press the buzzer.

You could see the disbelief on their faces — especially Simon’s. The same man who looked ready to shut it down… was now smiling.

Bruno Tonioli called it “fantastically mad,” while Alesha Dixon couldn’t believe what she was seeing — especially the fact that Simon and Amanda held back.
